Versatile, delicious oat flour is a gluten free baking staple. These gluten free oat flour recipes – including tender muffins, luscious cakes, simple fruit crisps, and more – are ones you’ll turn to again and again.

Oat Flour Recipes

I’ve rounded up over 50 of my favorite recipes that include oat flour, my favorite gluten free flour that always performs beautifully in cakes, cookies, muffins, and so much more. Oat flour is such a powerhouse in gluten free baking because of its high fat content which helps to keep baked goods moist and tender. It can be substituted in many recipes in a 1:1 substitute by weight for all-purpose flour and is equally wonderful paired with one or two gluten free flours, or included in a 1:1 gluten free all-purpose flour mix.

Use oat flour to make a towering hummingbird cake that’s packed with juicy pineapple and crunchy walnuts and finished with a tangy cream cheese frosting. Or, use it to make a cinnamon-swirled (or blueberry) coffee cake that’s so buttery and moist you won’t be able to stop at one piece. Fold oat flour into gluten free chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip cookie bars, use it to make a crisp and wholesome pie crust for an apple pie, or tuck it into a citrus-scented lemon loaf. There are so many great ways to use oat flour!

Oat flour is also one of the more affordable gluten free flours, and you can find packages of gluten free oat flour in most grocery stores. Make your own oat flour at home or pick up a bag to keep it even easier. I’m sure you’ll love baking with oat flour as much as I do!

How to Make Oat Flour

And yes, oat flour is gluten free! Look for certified gluten free oats or oat flour if you are gluten-sensitive to avoid any cross-contamination during processing.

Can I Use Oat Flour Instead of All-Purpose Flour?

Yes, you can use oat flour instead of all-purpose flour to turn your favorite recipes gluten free. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that oat flour weighs less than all-purpose wheat flour. If you have a kitchen scale, you can weigh your oat flour out to the amount called for in a recipe (another reason I love baking by weight!). If your recipe doesn’t have weight measurements included, you can substitute 1 ¼ cup leveled unpacked oat flour per 1 cup leveled unpacked all-purpose flour in recipes with decent results.
