Gather: Recipes for A Gluten-Free Thanksgiving

    Modified: Dec 29, 2021 · Published: Nov 3, 2015 by Nicole Spiridakis

A few years ago I wrote an article for NPR's Kitchen Window (RIP) about cooking for the gluten-free holiday table, focusing on naturally gluten-free dishes and including some on-the-lighter side and vegetarian/vegan options as well (I've written about vegetarian Thanksgiving here and on this site, and wrote a 'healthier Thanksgiving' for NPR here). Each November I like to do a round-up of vegetarian Thanksgiving recipes for cucinanicolina.com but this year I got to thinking about gluten-free recipes specifically. Wouldn't it be nice to have them organized in a tidy package? Enter my first foray into self-publishing with Gather: Recipes for a Gluten-Free Thanksgiving, available now!

I've compiled my very favorite Thanksgiving recipes that just happen to also be naturally gluten-free, such as a creamy butternut squash and coconut soup, tamari-roasted chickpeas, a pumpkin filled with a sumptuous array of baked root vegetables and millet, an assortment of delicious vegetable dishes like cauliflower gratin and mashed potatoes with greens, and a dessert section that includes, of course, a recipe for pumpkin pie and few unexpected additions too, such as honey-sweetened cranberry crumble and caramelized apple ice cream. Some of the recipes are available on this site but many are new. All are gluten-free, most are vegetarian and/or vegan, and they are, if I may say so, utterly delicious.

As I wrote in the introduction, my intention with this book is to provide some options for your Thanksgiving table, whether you are cooking a wholly gluten-free feast or just need a gluten-free dish or two to add to your meal. Look at these recipes as your guide to creating a dinner that will be savored by those who are gluten-free and those who can eat gluten. Chances are your offerings will be enticing enough that no one will notice the lack of wheat.

You can order Gather: Recipes for a Gluten-Free Thanksgiving here on amazon. If you don't have a kindle and would like a pdf copy, please email me and we can work something out.

    Cheers!

Your new Thanksgiving cookbook brings back fond memories, Nicole! I first heard you during an NPR pre-Thanksgiving interview and you shared the green bean recipe. I recall the sounds of the beans cooking coming through the car radio. So many years ago...and since then I've been a devoted fan of your blog and Flourless. So, I'll be making the green beans, the pumpkin pie, the cranberry crumble, and following your turkey recipe this week. Calling it my N. CA at-home-in-the-long-overdue-winter-storm baking and cooking holiday! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours; no matter how far away from SF, may it be a blessed season for you. Take care, S.
